At the end of the day, music is a business - in the past, record labels handled all of these business aspects because they diversified their income streams and could keep a large staff of support people on board. As a DIY artist, the onus then falls on you to handle all aspects of your business, with the ultimate benefits being undivided revenue streams and pure artistic control. Unfortunately, many times nuanced components such as search-engine optimization, web analytics and hosting services are overlooked and can cripple a DIY artist without them even knowing.
