eMusic jumps into A&R
With the amount of volume of music that eMusic sees moving through its databases, it makes sense that it would jump into the A&R game. However, I feel like TuneCore would be much better suited for something like this - it is much more low-cost than eMusic and already has connections with indies that would be interested in picking up new talent with low-risk deals. I will say that I think eMusic is making good moves given the economic context the music industry is in - the remodel of its website earlier in the summer coupled with its diversification strategy will help it in the long run.
